UK Podcast Veterans Launch Significant Productions Amid Industry Expansion

Comedians Elis James and John Robins, alongside producer Dave Masterman, launch Significant Productions as major platforms report growth, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships shaping the podcast industry.

Comedians Elis James and John Robins, along with their long-time producer Dave Masterman, have officially launched Significant Productions, a new podcast company based in the UK. The trio brings over a decade of experience creating some of the UK's most successful podcasts, signaling a significant new player in the audio landscape.

This new venture is built on the foundation of their twelve years of experience, during which they have been instrumental in the creation of numerous highly successful podcasts.

Industry Moves and Expansions

The podcasting world continues to be dynamic. Analytics and management solution Podstock has secured agreements with sports media brands like Goalhanger and Playmaker, adding to its existing roster which includes Locked On and Blue Wire. Meanwhile, Acast reports a 44% rise in sports listening during major sporting events and has released its "Sports Podcast Game Plan."

In a significant move, Acast will now represent Slate's podcast portfolio, bringing over 1.5 million weekly listens to the platform. Slate views this as a "crucial step in scaling our podcast network while maintaining our unique editorial voice."

Audioboom has announced the acquisition of the popular true crime podcast "RedHanded" from Wondery. The show, a three-time winner of the Gold Listener’s Choice Award at the British Podcast Awards, garners over 30 million downloads annually. Additionally, Audioboom has integrated Adelicious under its own name, positioning itself as the UK's largest independent podcasting platform.
