The Logitech Yeti Orb is a $60 USB mic aiming to replace the Snowball. It’s compact, cardioid-only and runs at 24-bit/48kHz. With Blue VO!CE processing via G Hub, it offers impressive features for the price, but it has limitations.
Design and Build
The Orb is all plastic, lightweight and includes a USB-C port and dual ¼"-20 mounts for angling. There's no headphone jack, so zero-latency monitoring is missing. The included desktop stand is functional but poor at isolating desk noise.
Sound and Performance
- Tone: Mid-forward, with weak bass and a soft top end. Spoken voice is intelligible but lacks warmth. Singing and guitar also sound thin.
- Distance sensitivity: Sounds best close (4-8 inches). Farther away, room tone becomes noticeable.
- Plosives: Surprisingly well-controlled, but a pop filter still helps.
- Room handling: Performs decently in untreated spaces if kept close.
- Desk noise: Highly sensitive; a boom arm is recommended.
Software and Mac Issues
Logitech’s G Hub unlocks Blue VO!CE features like EQ, gate, compressor, limiter and noise reduction. On Windows, gain control is smooth. On Mac, the gain is overly hot, making clipping hard to avoid – a major downside for Apple users.
Comparisons
Alternatives like the HyperX SoloCast, Samson Go Mic or Razer Seiren Mini offer stronger raw sound at this price. The Yeti Orb stands out for its built-in processing, not its tone.
Verdict
If you want affordable processing on Windows, the Yeti Orb delivers. For Mac users or tone-first buyers, better choices exist.
