Best Editing Tools for Gaming Clips: CapCut vs OpusClip vs Premiere Pro

We edited the same Apex Legends highlight using CapCut, OpusClip, and Premiere Pro. Here’s which tool came out on top.

Editing gaming clips for social media is part art, part speedrun. To find out which tool delivers the best balance of ease and quality, I took the same Apex Legends highlight – a 15-second headshot with team voice reactions – and edited it using CapCut, OpusClip and Premiere Pro.

CapCut (Free – Mobile & Desktop)

  • Pros: The auto-captions are near-perfect. The built-in effects make edits quick for Reels or TikTok, not to mention the easy vertical formatting.
  • Cons: Limited fine control over audio mixing and custom transitions.
  • Best For: Creators who want fast, punchy edits without needing a complex timeline.
  • Score: 4/5

OpusClip (AI-Powered, Browser-Based)

  • Pros: Upload your clip, and it does the rest – detects hype moments, adds zooms, captions and formats for vertical in minutes.
  • Cons: The AI often misses key context or timing, and captions are wrong half of the time. There is very little room for manual tweaks.
  • Best For: Bulk editors who need quick turnaround or social managers handling lots of creators.
  • Score: 2/5

Adobe Premiere Pro (Pro-Tier, Desktop)

  • Pros: Adobe allows full control over every detail – perfect for adding effects, animations and mixing game and mic audio.
  • Cons: While Premiere Pro is great for long-form content, it takes a long time to make short clips. There is a slower workflow and steep learning curve if you're newer to editing. It also requires export presets for vertical.
  • Best For: Experienced editors or anyone aiming for top-tier polish on YouTube Shorts.
  • Score: 3/5

The Verdict

CapCut won overall with its speed and simplicity. Premiere Pro was good for control and OpusClip won in automation. If you are editing clips for socials, you'll want to match your tool to your time and experience level.
