GoPro Unveils MISSION 1 Line of Compact Open Gate Cinema Cameras

GoPro enters the premium cinema market with its rugged MISSION 1 Series featuring a 50MP sensor and 8K Open Gate recording.

GoPro Enters the Premium Cinema Camera Market

The digital imaging landscape has experienced a major disruption with a surprising new product ecosystem. GoPro has officially announced the launch of its highly anticipated MISSION 1 camera line, headlined by the flagship MISSION 1 PRO model.

This new series moves the brand out of its traditional action niche and directly into the mainstream filmmaking market. The ultra-compact devices are positioned as the smallest, lightest, and most rugged cinema cameras ever developed.

Advanced Sensor Engineering and Processing Power

The flagship camera integrates a cutting-edge 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor paired with an ultra-efficient GP3 image processor. This internal hardware combination allows the compact system to record video at up to 8K resolution at 60 frames per second.

The camera system also supports 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K at 120 frames per second in Open Gate 4:3 format. This open aspect ratio maximizes sensor coverage, giving post-production editors total flexibility when reformatting files for different social platforms.

Versatile Form Factors and Interchangeable Lens Mounts

The specialized product lineup features three distinct versions tailored to different production workflows. Alongside the fixed-lens flagship model, the company introduced the innovative MISSION 1 PRO ILS variant.

The ILS edition features an interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens mount system. This design allows indie filmmakers to attach a virtually limitless range of high-end cine lenses and adapters to a durable, weatherproof camera body.

Professional Production Workflow Integration

The series introduces crucial video features previously absent from small-format action devices. It includes a wide 14-stop dynamic range, GP-Log2 color profiles, timecode synchronization, and internal 32-bit float audio recording.

These technical specifications allow the compact units to seamlessly integrate into professional multi-camera commercial sets. By offering high-end image quality at an accessible price point, the series provides a powerful tool for scaling independent video production.
