UK Podcasts Gain Millions of US Listeners as Video Content Surges

UK podcasts attract 2.3 million weekly US listeners, while video podcasting and discovery tools reshape the industry.

Edison Research has unveiled the significant impact of UK podcasting on the American audience, with the top ten UK shows attracting an impressive 2.3 million listeners weekly in the US. This data highlights the growing global appeal of British audio content and the strategic growth employed by UK-based production companies.

UK Shows' US Dominance

Edison Research's findings underscore the substantial reach of British podcasts in the United States. Among these successful shows are two from Goalhanger, a company whose founder, Jack Davenport, is set to share growth strategies at Podcast Movement.

The data also indicates that even companies facing challenges, like Wondery which recently announced layoffs, contribute to this strong UK presence in the US market.

The Rise of Video Podcasting

Video podcasting is experiencing a significant surge in popularity and revenue. Audioboom reported a doubling of its video revenue in the first half of 2025, with over 60% of its creators now producing video content.

Video now accounts for more than 13% of the company's business revenue, signaling a major shift in content creation and consumption within the podcasting industry.

Enhancements in Podcast Discovery and Accessibility

Several developments are improving the podcasting landscape. Ausha has launched its Podcast Search Optimization (PSO) Control Panel, making advanced optimization tools accessible to all podcasters, regardless of their hosting platform.

This follows updates to Apple Podcasts' "Best Of" lists, now including selections from Arab nations and corrected star ratings. Additionally, RSS.com has introduced a dark mode feature to enhance user comfort during late-night listening.
