RØDE Unveils Sonaura and Next-Generation Production Gear
The 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas served as the stage for RØDE to introduce a significant shift in microphone engineering and digital workflow management. Central to the announcement is Sonaura, a breakthrough micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone technology developed in partnership with semiconductor manufacturer Infineon. This ultra-compact component is designed to deliver studio-grade audio fidelity with a signal-to-noise ratio of 83dB, providing high-performance sound in a form factor much smaller than traditional capsules.
Beyond raw audio specifications, Sonaura technology emphasizes environmental durability. The sealed dual membrane design offers increased resistance to physical shock and fluctuating weather conditions, making it an ideal candidate for the next generation of professional lavalier and mobile microphones. The technology will first appear in the L1 sub-miniature lavalier from Lectrosonics before expanding into the broader RØDE product ecosystem.
Advancing Wireless Audio with RØDELink II
For creators requiring robust long-range performance, RØDE announced the RØDELink II. This professional UHF wireless microphone system is built to handle complex RF environments where standard 2.4GHz systems might struggle. A standout feature of this new system is the inclusion of 32-bit float on-board recording directly on the transmitters. This allows users to recover audio that would otherwise clip due to sudden volume increases, effectively eliminating the risk of ruined takes.
The RØDELink II also incorporates dedicated timecode I/O ports. This addition simplifies the process of synchronizing high-quality audio with video footage in post-production, a task that often creates friction for independent filmmakers and small production teams. By integrating these professional-grade features into a user-friendly interface, the system supports the scalability of high-end video production for businesses and educators alike.
Streamlining the Studio Workflow
Recognizing the aesthetic and practical needs of video podcasters, RØDE introduced two new studio arms and a branding solution for the popular PodMic series. The LPA1 is a low-profile studio arm engineered for precision placement without obstructing the camera's view of the creator. It supports a load capacity of up to 2kg and features integrated cable management to maintain a clean visual workspace. For creators who prefer a non-clamped solution, the DS3 desktop studio arm provides a weighted base and a ball-head mount for flexible positioning on any flat surface.
To help businesses and creators build brand authority, the new PodMic Flag offers a bespoke space for logos and artwork. This accessory integrates with the existing WS14 pop filter, allowing for a flush, professional look during video recordings. These hardware updates reflect a broader industry trend toward "invisible" technology that prioritizes the visual quality of the content as much as the audio.
AI-Driven Editing and Mobile Accessibility
On the software side, the announcement of RØDECaster Studio introduces a transcript-based editing environment designed to reduce the technical barrier to entry for audio production. This desktop application allows creators to edit audio by manipulating text, similar to a word processor. The software includes automatic removal of filler words and AI-powered tools that can replace specific phrases while maintaining the original speaker's natural tone.
Finally, RØDE confirmed that the RØDE Capture mobile app is officially coming to Android devices. Previously an iOS exclusive, the app enables dual-camera recording and direct Bluetooth connection for select RØDE wireless transmitters. This update ensures that a wider range of creators can access professional-grade mobile recording tools, further democratizing the ability to produce high-quality video and audio content on the go.
