Indonesian Listeners Prefer Video Podcasts, Says Populix Study

A new Populix study reveals Indonesian audiences prefer video podcasts, signaling a major opportunity for creators and advertisers.

New research from Populix, presented at Radiodays Asia 2025, shows that Indonesian audiences increasingly favor video podcasts over audio-only formats.

The study reveals that younger listeners (ages 18–34) drive this trend, citing YouTube, TikTok and Spotify Video as their preferred platforms for podcast consumption. Respondents said video makes podcasts more engaging, relatable and shareable.

For podcasters in Southeast Asia, the findings suggest that investing in video production could be crucial for audience growth. Brands and advertisers are also taking notice, as video podcasts often allow for more integrated and visual ad formats.

This reflects a global pattern of podcasting evolving beyond audio, as creators adapt content for multi-platform, video-first distribution.
