UK Podcast & Audio Industry Calls for Government Recognition and Support

UK‑based podcast and audio businesses are urging the government to formally recognise their sector, unlock tax relief and IP funding, and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has pledged a research study to build the evidence base.

Over 400 businesses within the UK's burgeoning podcast and audio sector have formally requested recognition in the government's Creative Industries Strategy.

This collective appeal, spearheaded by AudioUK, aims to unlock potential funding for intellectual property development and access to crucial tax relief. In a positive development, the UK's Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has pledged to commission a research study to gather vital data on the podcast and audio industry.

Industry Growth and Investment

The push for recognition highlights the significant economic and cultural impact of the UK's audio sector. By being included in the Creative Industries Strategy, these businesses hope to gain a more formal standing, which could lead to increased investment and support for innovation and growth.

The commitment from the DCMS to research the industry underscores a growing awareness of its importance.
