GoPro recently revealed three new products: the MAX2, Lit HERO, and Fluid Pro AI gimbal. Meanwhile, DJI launched the Osmo Nano, a modular, wearable action camera aimed at creators wanting ultra-compact tools.
What’s New from GoPro
- MAX2 360° Camera: The MAX2 supports true 8K 360° video, uses replaceable lenses, records in 10-bit color, and handles bitrates up to 300 Mbps. According to GoPro, it captures 21% more resolution than some competitors.
- Lit HERO: This ultra-compact lifestyle camera features 4K at 60fps, built-in lighting (three brightness levels), and weighs just 93g. It also supports magnetic mounting and is waterproof (to 5 m) with roughly 100 minutes of runtime.
- Fluid Pro AI Gimbal: A stabilization accessory announced alongside the cameras that supports subject tracking and works across GoPro, phones, and point-and-shoot devices up to 400 g.
DJI Osmo Nano: Ultra-Portable & Modular
- The Osmo Nano weighs 52 g, uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor, and supports 4K at 60fps and slow motion up to 4K120fps.
- It offers a dual-sided magnetic mounting, a modular “Vision Dock” for display/control, and mounts to hats, helmets, or pet collars.
- DJI advertises up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range, gesture and voice control, and internal storage.
- For battery, the module alone supports around 90 minutes, while combined with the dock, it stretches to 200 minutes.
- The camera is waterproof to 10 m (IPX8 for the module), though the dock remains splash-resistant (IPX4).
What It Means for Creators
These launches show the race for compact, high-quality capture gear is intensifying. GoPro is pushing 360° boundaries with true 8K and modular lenses, while the Lit HERO aims to simplify with built-in lighting. DJI counters with a wear-anywhere, modular action cam that leans into versatility and hands-free shooting.
For creators, this means more choice and more trade-offs. Do you prioritize immersive 360° capture, built-in lighting, modular design, or ultra portability?
Your next few camera investments will likely depend less on resolution and more on workflow, mounting flexibility, and how seamless the integration is with your editing and post-production pipeline.
