The [Behringer D2 Podcast Pro](https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=0507-ABA&ref=podcastvideos.com) is a dynamic microphone with XLR and USB connectivity, priced around $130\. It includes a shock mount, desktop tripod, USB-C cable and a mute button with a red light indicator.

### Build & Features

The D2 has a sturdy all-metal body, a cardioid pickup pattern and supports 24-bit/96kHz [digital recording via USB](https://www.podcastvideos.com/articles/top-usb-microphone-trends-and-picks-for-content-creators-in-2025/). Notably, its headphone monitoring only works in USB mode.

While the dual output is a nice feature, touching the XLR pins during USB use can introduce radio interference.

### Performance Overview

Tests showed decent off-axis rejection and fair plosive control, though the mic has a strong low-end roll-off that limits post-processing flexibility. Its shock mount performed poorly, picking up taps from desks and boom arms. The mic also exhibited a hollow resonance when handheld.

### Sound Quality

The D2 delivers a mid-focused tone with soft treble and subdued lows, making it serviceable for voice but less ideal for music or broadcast.

In direct comparisons with mics like the [Samson Q2U](https://samsontech.com/products/microphones/usb-microphones/q2u/?ref=podcastvideos.com), [Rode PodMic USB](https://rode.com/en-us/products/podmic-usb?ref=podcastvideos.com) and even the $25 [Behringer XM8500](https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=0502-AAA&ref=podcastvideos.com), the D2 often came up short in clarity and depth.

### Pros:

- Dual XLR/USB output
- Decent plosive rejection
- Useful mute button

### Cons:

- Poor shock isolation
- Noticeable resonance and hollow tone
- Aggressive low-end cut
- Monitoring limited to 16-bit/48kHz

### Verdict

While the D2 Podcast Pro offers flexibility and some user-friendly features, its sound quality and build limitations make it hard to recommend at $130\. Creators may find better performance and value in more affordable alternatives.
